FTP - File Transfer Protocol

An Internet protocol that enables you to transfer files between computers on the Internet. File Transfer Protocol, a method of transferring files from the Internet. There are special programs that do this file transferring for those that upload and download in mass. 
An Acronym for File Transfer Protocol, a method of retrieving files to your home directory or directly to your computer using SLIP/PPP. There are thousands of FTP sites on the Internet offering files and programs of all kinds. 
A program that enables such transfers. The industry leader and generally industry wide regarded "good guys" in the field, is IPSwitch, Inc.; they produced the WS_FTP software.
